Mahindra OJA Boosts Adoption of 21–30 HP Compact 4WD Tractors
Published - 21 Aug 2026 by Tractor Junction
Mahindra Tractors has completed three years of its OJA platform, highlighting the growing adoption of compact, lightweight 4WD tractors for specialised farming applications in India. The company says the OJA range now spans multiple products in the 21–30 HP category, an emerging segment designed for high-value agriculture and applications such as horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop cultivation.
The OJA platform was introduced in 2023 as Mahindra's global lightweight 4WD tractor platform. At launch, the company said the broader OJA architecture could support more than 40 tractor models across farming and non-farming applications.
OJA Targets Specialised Farming Applications
Unlike conventional tractors designed primarily for general field operations, Mahindra has positioned OJA around the requirements of specialised and high-value farming.
Popular Tractors
The range combines compact dimensions, precision handling, manoeuvrability and a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio. The tractors are designed to work in applications where space can be restricted, including vineyards, orchards and row-crop fields.
A narrow-track configuration is also available, allowing the tractor to operate in constrained spaces. The OJA range comes with 4WD as standard, providing traction and stability across different terrains while supporting compatibility with a wide range of implements.
Mahindra's OJA 21–30 HP platform includes four models—OJA 2121, OJA 2124, OJA 2127 and OJA 2130—according to the company's OJA product material.
Three-Cylinder Engine Focuses on Performance and Fuel Efficiency
The OJA tractor range is powered by a three-cylinder engine, developed to deliver strong performance, fuel efficiency and reliable operation across different applications.
The 21–30 HP OJA platform uses a 1331 cc three-cylinder diesel engine, with the models ranging from 21 HP to 30 HP. Mahindra's published specifications show maximum torque ranging from 76 Nm to 86 Nm across these four models.
The company also says the range is designed to deliver lower operational expenses per crop cycle and reduced maintenance requirements over the tractor's life.
PROJA Tech Pack Adds Productivity Features
Mahindra Tractors has introduced several productivity-focused technologies through the PROJA tech pack. These include:
- Electronic Power Take-off (ePTO)
- Electronic Draft and Depth Control (EDDC)
- Forward + Reverse (FR)
- Shuttle mode
- Creeper mode
These technologies are intended to improve precision, implement operation and ease of use during specialised farming activities.
MYOJA and ROBOJA Bring Telematics and Automation
Technology on the OJA platform extends beyond the productivity features.
The MYOJA tech pack integrates telematics into the OJA tractor range, while the optional ROBOJA tech pack brings automation features such as:
- Auto PTO
- Auto Implement Lift
- Auto One-Side Braking
This gives the OJA platform a combination of connected and automated functions in the compact tractor category.
Operator Comfort Gets Special Attention
Mahindra has also focused on reducing operator fatigue during long working hours. The OJA range features tilt and telescopic steering, which the company describes as an industry-first, along with side-shift controls and ergonomic layouts.
The focus is to make controls easier to access while giving operators greater flexibility to adjust their driving position.
Multiple Models Across the 21–30 HP Range
According to Parikshit Ghosh, Head – Sr. Vice President & Head – Marketing & National Business Operations, Mahindra Tractors, the OJA range is available in multiple models with options at every three to four HP points.
He said:
"The OJA has established itself as a preferred choice among farmers engaged in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and other specialised farming applications, and is offered today in multiple models with options available at every 3 to 4 HP points. With OJA, we remain focused on delivering application-specific solutions that help farmers operate more efficiently and profitably."
OJA Platform Developed by India and Japan Engineering Teams
The OJA platform was jointly developed by the engineering teams at Mahindra Research Valley, India, and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery, Japan.
The platform is designed for both Indian and international markets and supports over 40 tractor models across farming and non-farming applications.
Mahindra originally launched OJA as a global lightweight 4WD platform, with four platforms covering 20–70 HP: Sub-Compact, Compact, Small Utility and Large Utility. The Compact platform covers the 21–30 HP category.
Six-Year Warranty Covers the OJA Range
Mahindra is backing the OJA range with an industry-best six-year warranty, adding long-term warranty coverage to its compact 4WD tractor offering.
The company is positioning the warranty alongside the platform's focus on durability, reliability, lower maintenance requirements and operating efficiency.
Harsh Rai Highlights Technology-Led Farming
Harsh Rai, CEO, Mahindra Tractors, said:
"At Mahindra, we believe the future of farming lies in specialised, technology-led solutions that help farmers improve productivity and profitability. As India's rapidly growing horticulture and specialised farming segments continue to evolve, the need for purpose-built mechanisation is becoming increasingly important. Over the last three years, the OJA platform has embodied this vision, bringing together world-class engineering, innovation and customer insight to address the evolving needs of modern agriculture and specialised farming. As India's leading tractor brand, we remain focused on delivering globally benchmarked, future-ready products like the OJA that empowers farmers to achieve more from every acre."
His statement underlines Mahindra's strategy of developing tractors specifically for specialised agriculture rather than focusing only on conventional field applications.
OJA's Global Platform Continues to Expand
The OJA platform was originally launched with a global focus. Mahindra described it as a future-ready lightweight 4WD tractor platform developed for markets including India, North America, Japan, ASEAN, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the SAARC region.
The platform's global architecture is intended to allow Mahindra to use the same core engineering across multiple tractor models and applications.
Mahindra's Focus on Compact 4WD Mechanisation
The three-year milestone puts the spotlight on the growing role of compact tractors in specialised agriculture. With 21–30 HP models, standard 4WD, narrow-track capability, electronic controls, telematics and optional automation, Mahindra is using OJA to target applications where manoeuvrability and precision are as important as raw tractor power.
The company's broader OJA strategy combines lightweight design with advanced technology and implement compatibility, with the aim of helping farmers improve productivity and operational efficiency across specialised crops.
