Turmeric is a tropical herb that grows in the tropics & subtropics. Moreover, it requires humid climatic conditions.
The best season for planting turmeric is May to June or even July to August in some parts of the country.
15-25 irrigations are suitable for medium soil, while 35-40 irrigations are enough for light-textured red soils.
Turmeric plants require heavy manuring. Well-rotted cow dung/compost of about 2-3 tonnes per acre while planting rhizomes is highly helpful.
The average yield from turmeric farming can be 8,000 to 10,000 kg per acre, which can go up to 12,000 kg/acre.
Early varieties can mature within 7-8 months of sowing, while medium varieties harvest within 8-9 months.
