Cucumbers

Producing abundantly, cucumbers are typically eaten raw as salads or pickles. There are traditional, burpless, or difficult-to-find varieties avaialble at the store.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes that are best for roasting, sauces, and soups are Romas and heirloom "Black Vernissage." Generally speaking, tomatoes require a long growing season that includes lots of heat and full sun—at least 6 to 8 hours per day.

Peppers

Because they have similar growing requirements, peppers and tomatoes can be grown side by side. They thrive in rich soil, full sun, and regular deep watering.

Sorrels

'Raspberry Dressing', a French red-veined variety of spinach, is one of the cold-hardy perennials that provides greens even on the hottest summer days. They have a tangy, refreshing flavour that goes well with soups and salads, and they look stunning as they grow.

Beans

Bush, runner, and pole beans are all equally delightful because, once they start bearing fruit, you can pick a colander's worth of beans almost every day.
