The major Indian states for betel leaf production are Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Maharashtra.
In most districts, farmers grow 3-7 betel vines per person, but in Dibrugarh, Darrang, and Dhemaji, it's 16, 12, and 10 respectively. In 2004-05, Assam produced 89301 lakh betel leaves.
Some northeastern and northwestern states in India had a zero output value for betel leaves. Andhra Pradesh had the highest output value, increasing by 29.93 times between 2014-15 and 2018-19.
Magahi Pan covers 464 ha out of the 4000 ha of betel vine crops in 23 districts of Bihar. It thrives in clay loam soil, primarily found in the Magadha region of Bihar (Jha and Kumar, 2014).
Chorvad in Gujarat's Junagadh district is the only place in Saurashtra where betel leaf farming occurs, making it a notable hub for betel leaf production in India.
In Odisha, betel vine covers 2046 ha and yields 99.765 million leaves. Primarily grown in coastal districts, betel leaves are also exported to places like Varanasi and Mumbai.
