Maharashtra

Maharashtra is India's top sugarcane producer, with over 138 lakh metric tons in 2023–24. This is due to a consistent water supply. Sugarcane is grown mostly in Pune, Solapur, and Ahmednagar.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh ranks second in sugarcane production, with 105 lakh metric tons in 2023–24. Key districts include Meerut, Bareilly, Saharanpur, and Bulandshahr.

Karnataka

Karnataka is third in sugarcane production, producing over 38 million metric tons in 2019–20. Key districts include Shimoga, Mysore, Belgaum, and Chitradurga, which benefit from Cauvery River irrigation.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is fourth in sugarcane production, averaging 18.5 million metric tons annually. It leads in productivity, with 99 tons per hectare.

Bihar

Bihar has fertile plains and excels in sugarcane and jaggery production. Sugarcane is grown especially in districts including Patna, Darbhanga, Gaya, and Champaran.

Gujarat

Gujarat is known for its industries and still produces over 3% of India's sugarcane. The major districts for sugarcane production include Valsad, Navsari, Surat, and Bharuch.
