Grapes made their way from Persia to India in 1300 AD. It is grown in states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Mizoram.
Being the largest producer in our country, Maharashtra grows about 71 percent of the total country’s production. Nashik is the Wine Capital of India, and it’s in Maharashtra.
Growing grapes such as the Bangalore Blue, Dilkhush and Thompson Seedless, Karnataka places second with 24% of the national production.
With 2% grapes produced every year, Tamil Nadu places the third by a large margin. It produces both tropical and subtropical types of grapes like Perlette and Gulabi.
Being the 4th largest producer of grapes in India, Andhra Pradesh Contributed to 1% of the country’s production in the year 2020-21. It grows Thompson seedless and Dilkhush as well.
Last entry in this list is Mizoram, which contributes to less than 1% of the Indian Production of grapes. It is known to produce Perlette variety, which is white and seedless with a juicy pulp.
