Bihar is a significant FoxNut (Makhana) producing state in India. Bihar holds the top position in Makhana production, contributing to over 85% of India's total output of this crop.
In West Bengal, Malda and Uttar Dinajpur are key districts for Makhana production. It's a notable aquatic cash crop, leading in production and processing across India.
Uttar Pradesh contributes a smaller percentage of FoxNut production compared to Bihar. It's mainly grown in districts like Pratapgarh, Ambedkar Nagar, and Sant Kabir Nagar.
FoxNut has been a long-standing cash crop in Manipur, traditionally grown in private ponds primarily within the four valley districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, and Bishnupur.
