Sugarcane Farming : Best Sowing Methods and Harvesting Tips

Sugarcane is best farmed in warm, humid climates. Make sure the soil that you’re planting in is well drained and fertile.

Sugarcanes can be planted thrice, and the seasons are October, February, and July. The seasons depend on the place that you’re planting it in.

Plough your land twice, plough it deep. Then crush the clods with a harrow, add manure and make furrows to plant the sugarcane saplings.

There are several methods that you can adapt to plant sugarcane. Flat planting, furrow planting and trench planting are some of the methods. Your method of choice would depend on soil moisture, drainage and wind conditions.

Sugarcane usually requires about 25 tonnes minimum of farmyard manure during land preparation process, and during growth a split dosage of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium.

Sugarcane should be harvested when it reaches a level of maturity (10 to 18 months). India averages at a yield of about 77.6 tonnes per hectare.
