Ridge Gourd Farming Tips for Indian Farmers

Ridge gourd, or Luffa acutangula, is a versatile tropical vegetable known for its ridged, elongated green fruit used in various cuisines for its crisp texture and mild flavour.

Ridge gourd is a nutritious vegetable known for its dietary fibre, low-calorie content, and essential vitamins and minerals, contributing to digestive health and overall well-being.

Additionally, ridge gourd cultivation benefits from well-drained soil and requires temperatures between 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F) for optimal growth.

First, prepare well-drained soil enriched with compost to sow ridge gourd seeds. Plant the seeds at a depth of 1 inch, spacing them around 12 inches apart, either in rows or hills.

Fertilise ridge gourd plants with a balanced NPK fertiliser or compost rich in organic matter during planting and throughout the growing season to promote healthy growth and fruit development.

Water ridge gourd plants consistently, aiming for deep but not waterlogged soil. Use mulch to retain moisture and irrigate early morning to reduce disease risks.
