Rajma, also known as kidney beans, is a significant legume crop widely cultivated in India. In the following slides, we have provided valuable insights into the farming of rajma.
Rajma beans thrive in warm, humid climates (20-30°C) with well-drained, pH 6.0-7.0 soil. They require moderate moisture to avoid waterlogging and fungi.
Preparing the land by removing weeds, rocks, and debris is crucial, followed by tilling to loosen the soil. Enhance fertility by incorporating organic matter like compost.
Regular watering is vital for Rajma beans' growth. Depending on soil moisture and weather, methods like drip, sprinkler, or flood irrigation can be chosen.
When the rajma bean pods mature and turn yellow, they are typically handpicked, or a threshing machine can be used for collection. On average, yields range from 1 to 1.5 tonnes per acre.
Weeds compete with Rajma beans for nutrients and moisture, hampering production. Use herbicides pre- and post-emergence or manual weeding for control.
