What is organic farming?

Organic farming is not only adapting non-synthetic fertilisers and pesticides but also is a philosophy that supports working solidarily with nature.

The start of organic farming

As global food production increased, the demand for more sustainable methods of food production rose exponentially. This resulted in a significant number (approx. 2.3 Million) of organic farmers worldwide.

There are four principles in organic farming, i.e. The principle of health, The principle of Ecology, The principle of fairness, and the principle of care.

Different practices in organic farming include crop rotation, organic nutrient management, growing cover crops, relying on natural predators, anaerobic soil disinfection and much more.

Research done at Rodale Institute, Pennsylvania, US, proves that organic farming is much more efficient and productive than conventional arable farming. Corn was taken as an experimental crop, and the yield was 31% higher than conventional farming.

Some top reasons include avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, protecting the environment, producing more nutrients per Kg, protecting the dependent food chain, and avoiding GMO foods.
