When it comes to producing millets, India precedes all other countries by quite a heavy example. Contributing to about 80% of Asia’s production, it makes up for 41% of global production.
First in our list of the top 5 largest producing states of millets, Rajasthan produces Bajra and Jowar majorly. The state’s climate is ideal for the production of millets.
The list goes on, and UP takes the second place in it. It grows pearl millets, popular in India as Bajra. UP has rich alluvial soil, and is hence perfect for bajra.
Cultivating Ragi and Jowar are the major millets grown in the state of Maharashtra. It is a state popular for its rich soil and ideal climate for growing crops.
Once again, the state of Karnataka also grows jowar and ragi as primary millet crops, and it excels in the production so much so that it takes the fourth place in this list.
