In India, apples are grown mainly in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. They're also cultivated to a smaller extent in Nagaland, Punjab, and Sikkim.

In 2020-2021, J&K grew 1.7 million tons of apples, making jobs for 3.5 million people and adding 8.2% to the local economy. Kashmiri apples are wanted and earn about ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 cr.

Himachal Pradesh is India's "Apple Garden," producing 28.55% of the country's apples. It's vital for the economy, with 91.39% of temperate fruit and 83.14% of all fruit production.

In Uttarakhand, apples are grown in areas like Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital, and Champawa. Apple's cultivation area is increasing by 1000 hectares annually.

Arunachal Pradesh adds 0.32% to India's apple production. It can grow more apples and sell them to nearby countries like Bangladesh.

Nagaland's apple industry thrives in a favourable climate, benefiting tribal populations and rural communities. New apple varieties suited for warmer climates boost income and employment.
