How to Start Kesar Mango Farming

Kesar mangoes are golden-yellow, sweet and aromatic fruits. They are grown near Junagadh in Gujarat. They are very popular for export.

Suitable soil

Kesar mangoes need well-draining soil with pH 5.5-7.5. Organic matter improves soil quality and nutrients. Avoid shallow clay soils or high calcium soils.

Climate required

Kesar mangoes like warm and humid climate. They grow in 25°C to 35°C at day and 20°C at night. They need long sunlight hours and abundant rain or irrigation.

Land preparation

For Kesar mango farming, prepare land well. Plow 2-3 times and level the soil. Remove weeds and stones. Dig pits of 1 x 1 x 1 m at 8 x 8 m spacing.

Planting and pruning

Kesar mango can be grown by grafting or air layering. Plant healthy and disease free saplings in the pits along with top layer of soil, compost and organic fertilizers. Prune every year or two after fruit sets.

Pest and disease management

Kesar mango plants may get insect pests, Spray neem oil or insecticidal soap to prevent them. Kesar mango plants may also get fungal diseases, Apply fungicides or baking soda solution to treat them.
