India is considered to be one of the biggest producers worldwide of honey. The National Bee Board reports that India generated about 1,55,000 tonnes of honey in fiscal year 2021-2022.
Uttar Pradesh is the biggest honey-producing state in India. It contributes to approximately 30 percent of total honey. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Siddharth Nagar, and Basti are the primary honey-producing regions in Uttar Pradesh.
Gujarat contributes to about fifteen percent of the country's honey-producing capacity. Gujarat honey is largely multi-floral honey with a unique flavor and scent.
Punjab is the third biggest state in India for producing honey. It contributes to about ten percent of overall honey production. Punjab's most prominent honey-producing locations are Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Amritsar.
Bihar is India's fourth-largest honey-producing state. It generates roughly nine per cent of total honey production. Bihar's main honey-producing districts are Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, and Samastipur.
Madhya Pradesh is the fifth largest honey producer. It roughly generates seven per cent of total honey production. The state's diverse vegetation and animals make it a good area for beekeeping.
