Ginger farming is practised in most of the Indian states. However, the states of Orissa, Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.
For ginger, a humid and warm climate is required. Normally, ginger is cultivated at sea level to an altitude of more than 1500 MSL.
For ginger farming, clay loam, red loam, and sandy or lateritic loam soil are recommended.
Ginger required minimum tillage operations. The bed for ginger should be 15 cm high, 1m wide and have 50 cm spacing between the beds.
There are wide popular varieties of ginger, and some are maran, assam, himachal, kuruppampadi, himgiri and many more.
Ginger crops are ready in around 8-10 months upon the maturity of the variety.
