Fig farming thrives in warm, dry climates with ample sunlight. It can be grown in well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0 to 6.5 for optimal fig cultivation.
To grow figs, pick a variety suitable for your area, like Poona or Dinkar in India. Plow the land before planting, and choose a warm, sheltered spot near a sunny wall.
Figs usually don't face many pests or diseases. Sometimes, root-knot nematodes can infect figs in sandy soils. If your figs are infected, remove the affected plants.
To avoid harming the tree or the fruit, it is best to wait for figs to fully ripen and turn purplish-brown before gently twisting and pulling them upwards.
Apply rich compost and high-nitrogen fertilisers like cottonseed, soybean, or alfalfa meal for healthy fig trees. Regular watering, especially in dry spells, is essential.
