Drumstick, also known as moringa, is a tropical tree with many varieties.Some of the common ones are PKM1, PKM2, ODC 3, and MOMAX3, which differ in yield and quality.
Drumstick can be propagated by seeds or stem cuttings. Stem cuttings are faster and more effective than seeds, but they are not available on a large scale.
Drumsticks grow well with a warm and dry climate, temperatures not exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. Drumsticks find sandy loam or red soil with pH 5.5 to 7.5 very suitable for them.
The soil should be plowed and harrowed before planting to remove weeds and improve aeration.The planting distance should be 3 to 4 meters between rows and trees.
Pests can be controlled by using neem oil, garlic spray, or biopesticides. Diseases can be prevented by using resistant varieties, pruning infected parts, and applying fungicides.
Drumstick leaves and fruits are ready for harvest when they are green and tender. They should be picked carefully by hand or with a knife or scissors to avoid injury and damage.
