Growing cumin is more profitable because it needs less money for labor, fertilizers, plant protection, and harvesting.
Cumin thrives in warm, dry places like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. Sowing from Oct-Nov, careful care ensures a promising harvest.
For cumin farming, choose well-drained loamy soil enriched with organic matter. Pick fields not used for cumin farming in the past 3-4 years for commercial growth.
The best time for sowing cumin seeds is from November to December. This period requires a moderately dry and cool climate.
Weeding in cumin farming is required at 1 and 2 months after sowing. Thin excess plants during initial hoeing. Chemical herbicides like Terbutryn or Fluchloralin work well.
Field cleaning precedes harvesting. Using a sickle, cumin plants are cut, then stacked on a clean floor for sun-drying. Seeds are separated by beating after drying.
