The Blue Java bananas, sometimes the ice cream bananas are quite a delight to eat. These bananas are blue in color in the growing stage, then turn a creamy yellow.
These exotic fruits thrive best in full sun, so such a climate would be appreciated. Furthermore, the blue bananas grow in tropical climates and locations that have such climates.
Blue bananas take to well-drained soil of pH value 5.5-7.0 and they grow exceptionally well. But make sure that the soil is free of fusarium to give your crop a fighting chance.
The ice cream bananas grow from a rhizomatic corm. The rhizomes give out a stalk which makes for a stem, and then develops into the trunk of the banana tree.
Bananas are a water hungry crop. Make sure that you water them regularly, but your soil should drain water well as well, as they would succumb to root rot if the water logs.
At the flowering stage, use a bag to cover and protect your fruits from any pest infestations. When they continue to grow, they show a blue tint. That’s when you start picking the bananas.
