From Fish to Greens: Exploring Aquaponics Farming in India

Published May 26, 2023

Aquaponics is a sustainable indoor way of farming. It comprises aquaculture and hydroponics, i.e. raising both fish and vegetables.

Plants are grown in a grow bed, and fish are placed in a fish tank. The nutrient-rich water feeds the grow bed, and oxygenated water recirculates to the fish tank.

Aquaponics Vertical Farming is a method that grows vertically above a fish tank. It uses the nutrient film technique (NFT), allowing plants to grow in long, narrow pipes.

Aquaponics yields nearly six times more than traditional farming. It saves up to 90% of water and eliminates chemicals, as fish waste acts as the natural fertilizer for plants.

The aquaponics farming system requires a Fish Tank to raise and feed the fish—an Air Pump to maintain the oxygen levels, Fish Feed, PH Balancer and water.

Aquaponics farming is a more sustainable, intensive and carbon-neutral system. It offers a multi-channel income source do not use fertilizer, pesticides, and other chemicals.
