Domestic Tractor sales achieved growth of 12.02% in 1st half-year of FY'21. As we all know, this is a pandemic year, and it comes with difficulties for manufacturers and farmers. At the beginning of the year, tractor sales drastically decreased due to the COVID-19 crises. With this, a locust attack in India damages all the crops. These problems hit the tractor sales badly.
But after lockdown, tractor companies recovered, and tractor sales increased. Now we are in the middle of the year, and according to recent data, overall tractor sales boomed. Total sales registered 401672 units in H1’FY21, and in H1’FY20, it was 358565 units. That shows a hike in the gross tractor sales. Still some of the leading manufacturers are facing supply chain issues to manage tractor inventory due to high demand from farmers.
Rural market continued to show strong growth due to a good monsoon. Tractor sales was positively impacted with the monsoon progress and spread. Riding high on back of good monsoons, favorable Kharif season and increased disposal income in the rural areas majority OEMs registered high 75% growth in August 2020 sales.

In FY’21 (Apr-Sep’20) Mahindra Tractors recorded the highest market share fall by -3.8% when compared to last year. As Mahindra Tractors shown growth of 1.91% in sales against Industry growth of 12% in H1’FY21. Mahindra tractor sales recorded 154904 units in H1’FY21, and in H1’FY20, the sales were 152004.
India’s 2nd largest tractor manufacturer TAFE Group recorded 79678 units of tractor sales in H1’FY21 against 64450 units in H1’FY20. Which clearly shows a growth of 23.63%. Along with this, TAFE manages to add 1.86% of market share in H1’FY21.
India’s youngest & one of the fastest growing Tractor brand Sonalika Tractors has been extremely consistent in the past few months and the sales growth is a testimony of it. It infact posted their highest ever monthly sales in Sep’20 Domestic tractor sales of Sonalika recorded a 33.35% hike in H1’FY21. They sold 54504 units of tractors in H1’FY21, and the Sonalika tractor sales were 40873 units. Furthermore, Sonalika’s market share increased by 2.17% in H1’FY21, which is highest gain of MS among all players by surpassing industry growth.
Escorts always supplying tractors according to the demand of the Indian farmers. In H1’FY21, Escort's domestic tractor sales increased by 1935 units (4.34%). As the brand sold 40846 units in H1’FY21, and in H1’FY20, it was 38911 units. But, their market share decreased by 0.68 in H1’FY21.
John Deere Tractor noted down remarkable progress in India this year, during 2nd quarter (Jul-Sep’20) John Deere tractors even grab 4th position based on sales volume. John Deere Recorded its domestic tractor sales were at 35176 units in H1’FY21, 4366 units gained in John Deere tractor domestic sales. Additionally, the John Deere tractor also gained 0.16% of gross market share.
New Holland Tractor is famous for its comfort and technologically advanced features. Its domestic tractor sales boosted by 20.29% in H1’FY21, and it is a good sign for the company. Along with this, New Holland Tractor also gained 0.28% of market share in H1’FY21.
The most popular Japanese Tractor Brand- Kubota Tractors, which also winning Indian farmers' hearts. In H1’FY21, it also registered an impressive growth of 7.71% in Kubota domestic tractor sales. As the tractor sales were 6159 units in H1’FY21 and H1’FY20, it recorded 5718 units. But, it lost 0.06% of market share.
In H1’FY21, Vst Tractor sales noted 4320 units, 18.81% higher than the tractor sales recorded in H1’FY21. Vst Tractor also added 0.06% of market share in half-yearly 2020.
Captain Tractor records the 2nd highest domestic tractor sales in H1’FY21. Its domestic tractor sales grew by 59.44%. 2119 units were sold by Captain Tractor in H1’FY21, which is 790 units more in comparison to H1’FY20. It also manages to add 0.16% of the market share.
Indo Farm Tractor registered a significant increase in H1’FY21. Sales had stood at 1780 units in H1’FY21, and in H1’FY20, it was 1347 units, which shows 32.15% of growth. Along with this, it adds 0.07% of the market share.
Preet Tractor played smart in this financial year as they started selling tractors in bulk to Tractor Brokers at a very attractive price in Haryana and Punjab region. Due to this, Preet Tractor was able to sell more than 600 tractors direct to large brokers. Due to this Preet Tractor domestic sales incredibly increased by 144.94% in H1’FY21. Preet sold 1766 units in H1’FY21 against 721 units in H1’FY20. They also gained 0.24% of the market share.
Force Tractor also registered 4.90% growth in domestic tractor sales. As it recorded 1585 units sold in H1’FY21 and H1’FY20, the sales were 1511 units.
ACE Tractor domestic sales noted 1202 units in H1’FY21, and it registered H1’FY20. They recorded a gain of 10.38%. With this, the ACE tractor maintains its market share in H1’FY21.
SDF Tractor sales were 1048 units in H1’FY21, and in H1’FY20 it registered as 2378 units. This shows a steep decline of 55.93% in sales. Along with this, the SDF Tractor also loses market share by 0.40%.
