HOSHIARPUR: Home-grown tractor manufacturer International Tractor limited is all set to open world's largest tractor manufacturing unit within its existing plant here early next month.

The owner of the third largest selling tractor brand Sonalika will have an annual installed capacity of two lakh tractor at the new facility, which will be an addition to the existing one lakh unit annual capacity in the same plant. For the new facility, the company is under the process of hiring 1500 workers to the existing 4,000 workers that will take total workforce to 5500.

Behind International Tractor Limited manufacturing facility is Mahindra Tractors with an annual capacity of 1,50,000 at Zaheerabad, Andhra Pradesh which is the second largest tractor manufacturing plant in the World. While YTO Tractors of China has third largest plant with an annual capacity of 80,000 units.

BK Singh, Sr. General Manager, Human Resource, International Tractor limited said, "We are in a process to add 1500 workforce for our new facility. We tied-up with Industrial Training Institutes for hiring new candidates". On average the company hires 300 workers every year on different levels. These are either replacement or the new addition to the company.

More than 80 percent of the workforce at Sonalika Plant are from within the 100 km radius while the 20 percent have come across from other states.

With the new facility coming in the tractor manufacturer will now have an annual capacity of producing 3 lakh tractors. Out of which the new two lakh capacity plant will be dedicated to domestic market while the old plant with a capacity of 1 lakh tractor will produce tractors exclusively for export markets.

The Mega tractor producing factory is fully equipped to produce the complete range of tractors from 20 Hp to 120 Hp and can churn out one tractor in 2 mins. The company is further planning to add new range tractors and aims to produce tractor up to 200 Hp.

According to the company, more than 50 percent components are produced inside the manufacturing facility. The company produces systems like Engine, transmission, Chassis and sheet metal body parts. While the few child parts and other systems are outsourced to component manufacturers.

Last year, the company recorded the highest sales of 81531 units with a growth of 19.6 percent over last year. In the domestic market, the company sold 69290 units while it exported 12241 units growing at 29.3%. Going forward the company expects the double-digit growth over new few years.
