Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Friday reported 83 percent decline in total tractor sales at 4,772 units in April with lockdown impacting sales.
The company had sold a total of 28,552 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement.
Domestic tractor sales were down 83 per cent at 4,716 units last month as against 27,495 units in April 2019, it added.
Exports were at 56 units last month as compared to 1,057 units in the year-ago period, a decline of 95 per cent, the company said.
Commenting on the sales performance, M&M President - Farm Equipment Sector Hemant Sikka said,"The extension of the national lockdown impacted the business, with dealers partially open for just a few days.
" On the outlook, he said,"Going forward, several positive factors including a good Rabi output, opening of procurement centres by the government, indication of good crop prices, reservoir levels etc. augur well for tractor demand."
Sikka, however, said,"The rate of improvement will depend on how quickly the on-ground sales operations, including the start of NBFCs are normalised, following the relaxation of the lockdown."

Skyscraping Tractor Sales Recorded in August 2020 - Boost up by 74.71%
Domestic Tractor Sales recorded in August 2020 is 64,730 units, and in August 2019, it was 37,050 units, which boost up by 75%. Following, we are showing a brand-wise tractor sales report. Have a look. Mahindra’s tractor sales grew 69% y-o-y to 23,503 units in August from 13,871 units in the same months of the previous year. The company’s tractor exports were a tad higher at 955 units against 946 units from the year-ago period. According to Hemant Sikka, President, Farm Equipment Sector, M & M, the tractor industry growth remained strong in August on continued positive sentiment due to improved Kharif sowing this year. We are thereby indicating a bumper harvest, bountiful monsoon, good rural cash flows, and low base effect. “We expect rural sentiments to remain positive and translate into robust tractor demand as we move into the festive period," Sikka said. India’s second-largest tractor manufacturer TAFE recorded unbeatable domestic tractor sales with the growth of 87% yoy basis. TAFE recorded 11841 unit sales in August 2020, which are 5504 units more than August 2019 tractor sales. Along with this, TAFE Group added 1.19% of market share in August month. Sonalika Tractor is the brand that gains Indian farmer's trust by supplying them with technologically advanced tractors. In 2020, August proves the best month for the Sonalika Tractor Brand. They sold 8205 units tractors in August 2020, and in August 2019, Sonalika domestic tractor sales were 4560 units. This shows a clear jump in Sonalika Domestic Tractor Sales by 79.93%. With this, Sonalika gained 0.37% of the Market share. Raman Mittal, Executive director, Sonalika Group said, August was the fourth consecutive month for the company to have achieved record growth in the domestic market. “The demand for tractors is surging and it is expected to remain healthy on the back of higher kharif sowing and good monsoons coupled with increasing preference of farmers towards mechanization," said Mittal. The company focuses on building inventory to cater to the accumulating demand in the run up to the festive season. According to Mittal, sales during the festive season could contribute up to 40%-45% overall annual volumes. John Deere Tractor recorded the highest ever August sales in last month with 7428 units of sales, whereas, in August 2019, it recorded 4012 units, which are clearly 3416 units more. This month, John Deere Tractor added 0.65% of the market share. Escorts Tractor Also Records Highest Ever August Sale, Grew by 80.1%. Domestic tractor sales in August 2020 were at 6750 tractors, recording the growth of 79.4% on Year on Year basis (YoY) against 3,763 tractors in August 2019. And export tractor sales were 518 tractors in August 202 against 272 in August 2019, recording the growth of 90.4% on Year on Year basis (YoY). Escorts Management remains optimistic for the coming festive months, and the supply side situation improved significantly in comparison to last months. New Holland Tractors sold 2801 units in the month of August 2020, and in the month of August 2019, they sold 1592 units, which is 75.94% growth in Domestic Tractor Sales. Kubota Tractor registered a 54.25% boom in the Tractor sales. Kubota Sales recorded in August 2020 is 1396 units, and in August 2019, it recorded 905 units. This month, their market share drop down by 0.29%. Vst domestic tractor sales noted 861 units in August 2020, and it recorded 769 units in August 2019. They registered a gain of 11.96%. Along with this, the Vst tractor market share fall by 0.75% in August 2020. Preet Tractor played smart in August Month as their sales grew by 319%. As per our resources, Preet Tractor started selling tractors in bulk to Tractor Brokers at a very attractive price in Haryana and Punjab region. Due to this, Preet Tractor was able to sell more than 300 tractors direct to large brokers. Some of the other small Tractor manufacturers are also planning to start the same to increase sales. Preet has sold 386 units more in August 2020 compared to August 2019. With the gain in sales, they recorded an increase in market share by 0.46%. Captain Tractor sales 423 units tractors in August 2020, and in August 2019, Captain Tractor Domestic Sales were 214 units. This clearly shows a 97.66% increase in Captain domestic tractor sales. Force Tractor gained 31.60% in its domestic sales this month. Force Tractor domestic sales recorded in August 2020 were 329 units and in August 2019 were 250 units. Force Tractor lost its market share by 0.17%. Indo Farm Tractor Domestic Sales increased by 50.49% to 310 units in August 2020 against 206 units in August 2019. SDF Tractor domestic sales were 204 units in August 2020, and it recorded 303 units in August 2019, which states a 32.67% drop in the tractor sales. With that company lost 0.50% of the market share too. SDF is the only player who is continuously showing –ve growth for the past 4 months. Ace Tractor Domestic Sales were increased by 17% in the month of August 2020. It registered 25 units more in August 2020 as compared to August 2019. As per FADA report Tractor registrations continued their upwards journey with 27.80 per cent YoY growth in the month with 67,406 tractor registered compare to 52,744 tractors in Aug’19. The entry-level passenger vehicles showed initial signs of demand revival as the uptick was witnessed around the Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi festivals. Apart from the rural market, which has shown revival signs, urban centers have also shown initial signs of demand pullback, the FADA said. It said tractor, small commercial vehicles and entry-level passenger vehicles positively impacted the August sales as the Centre puts extra focus on rural development and agriculture. "With the start of festival season and the government's continued effort to open up India, the month of August saw good numbers when compared to immediate previous months. August also saw an arrest in decline and pullback efforts on all fronts were visible, though on YoY all categories except tractors continued to fall, though at a slower pace," FADA President Vinkesh Gulati said. VST Tillers Tractors reports 57% growth in sales of power tillers & tractors during August 2020
VST Tillers Tractors Ltd has announced the sales figures for the month of August 2020. The company has sold 2638 power tillers in August 2020 as against 1437 in August 2019, registering a growth of 83.57% growth YoY. The company has sold 897 tractors during August 2020, as compared to 813 in August 2019, registering a growth of 10.33% YoY. The company has sold 10864 power tillers YTD (April 2020 to August 2020) as against 9341 during the period April 2019 to August 2019. The company has sold 3513 tractors YTD (April 2020 to August 2020) as against 3217 during the period April 2019 to August 2019. Shares of V.S.T.TILLERS TRACTORS LTD. was last trading in BSE at Rs.1618.85 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 1629.05. The total number of shares traded during the day was 862 in over 183 trades.
