Domestic Tractor Sales in August 2021 Declined By 17%

In August 2021, the total tractor domestic sales were 53714 units, and in August’20, the sales were 64730 units. This data shows that tractor manufacturers faces loss this month. Mahindra Tractors Group registered a downfall in August 2021 tractor sales. Mahindra recorded 19997 unit sales in August 2021, whereas in August’20, Mahindra Tractor domestic sales were 23503 units. This shows that Mahindra tractor sales shrank by 14.92%. But, the company gained 0.92% of the market share in August 2021. 

Commenting on the performance, Hemant Sikka, President - Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, "We have sold 22843 tractors in the domestic market during May 2021. In May, COVID spread in rural markets led to stringent lockdowns, leading to deferment of tractor purchase and limited operations at dealerships. While state specific lockdowns and localized restrictions continue, it is heartening to see the Covid cases reducing sharply. This is leading to sharp improvement in farmer sentiments and green shoots of recovery are visible, especially since the last week, as farmers start preparing their land for upcoming Kharif crop season. A bumper Rabi harvest, record procurement, food prices holding up, gradual opening up of Mandis and expectations of a normal monsoon will pave the way for growth in the upcoming season. In the exports market, we have sold 1341 tractors with a growth of 314% over last year."

TAFE Group domestic tractor sales registered a 17.70% decrease in August’21. TAFE Group sold 9745 units in August 2021, against 11841 units sold in August 2020. Along with this, the TAFE Group market share decreased by 0.15 in last month.

John Deere Tractor outperformed the tractor industry. John Deere gained the No. 3 tractor manufacturer position in Aug’21 along with this JD gained 1.85% MS and maintained 13.3% MS. John Deere registered 7158 units of tractor sales in August 2021 against 7428 units in Aug’20 which exhibit a 3.63% loss. 

Sonalika Tractor recorded 5810 units in August 2021, and the sales were recorded 8205 units in August 2020, which shows a 29.19% decline in the domestic tractor sales this month. Sonalika Tractor lost highest market by 1.86% . 

Escort Group domestic tractor sales decreased by 27.11%. The company domestic tractor sales were 4920 units in August 2021 and 6750 units in August 2020. Along with this, Escorts also lost a 1.27% market share. 

This year August sales is not strictly comparable with last year same month sales because of existence of pent-up demand last year, post COVID-19 national wide lockdowns. As we enter festive season months, we see farmer sentiment strong and enquiry level building up, driven by favourable macroeconomic factors, reasonably good water level of reservoirs, good pace of Kharif sowing and continued support by the Government in Agri sector. Some parts of the country have faced a deficit of rainfall in July and August, and it remains to be seen how monsoon behaves in September. New Holland Tractor recorded 2044 units sales in August 2021, and on the other hand 2801 units sold in August 2020. This shows a 27% decline in New Holland Tractor domestic sales. Along with this, New Holland also lost its market share by 0.52%. 

Kubota Tractor domestic sales decreased by 17.62% to 1150 units in August 2021 against 1396 units in August 2020. 

VST Tractor domestic sales decreased to 644 units, declined by 25.20% compared to 861 units sold in August 2020. VST Tractor registered a 0.13 %  loss in August 2021 market share. 

Preet Tractor registered 20.12% growth in their domestic tractor sales, reported 609 units of Tractor sales in August 2021 against 507 units sold during August 2020. Preet Tractor market share increased by 0.35% in August 2021.

In August 2021, Indo Farm Tractor domestic sales boosted by 62.58% in comparison to August 2020. Tractor sales in August 2021 were 504 units  against 310 units sold during August 2020.The company also added 0.46% of the market share. 

Force Tractor increased market share by 0.29% last month as their domestic tractor sales hiked by 30.1 per cent in August 2021. Sales which had stood at 329 units in August 2020 increased to 428 last month.

Captain Tractor domestic sales declined by 29.1% in August 2021 compared to August 2020. As a result, 300 units tractor sales were recorded in August 2021, whereas 423 units tractor sales were recorded in August’20. Along with this, the company also lost market share by 0.09%. 

ACE domestic tractor sales increased by 19.19% to 205 units in August 2021 against 172 units in August 2020. Along with this, 0.12% of the market share increased this month. 

SDF Tractor registered a 1.96% loss in domestic tractor sales, from 204 units in August 2020 to 200 units in August 2021. However, their markets share marginally decreased by 0.06%.
