February 1, 2025: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025 for the eighth consecutive time. Despite opposition disruptions in the Lok Sabha regarding the Maha Kumbh stampede, the Finance Minister continued with the budget presentation.
She stated that this budget is dedicated to growth, development, and strengthening the middle class. India is completing 25 years of this century, and the vision of a developed nation continues to drive progress. She also highlighted that India remains the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Government’s Focus on ‘GYAN’
The Finance Minister introduced the ‘GYAN’ initiative, focusing on:
India has witnessed remarkable economic and social growth over the last ten years, and the government aims to build upon this success.
A National High Yield Seed Mission will introduce over 100 high-yield seed varieties, boosting agricultural productivity. Additionally, India, being the second-largest producer of fish, will see government support for deep-sea fishing in Andaman & Nicobar to expand the ₹60,000 crore fishing market.
Under PM Dhandhanya Krishi Yojana, the government will develop 100 agricultural districts to improve crop diversification, sustainable farming, better irrigation, and post-harvest storage at the Panchayat and block levels. The program will benefit 1.7 crore farmers and will be implemented in partnership with central and state governments.
The focus is also on Tuar, Urad, and Masoor pulses, with a four-year plan to procure pulses from registered farmers through central agencies to stabilize prices and improve farmer incomes.
The Union Budget 2025 prioritises agriculture, rural development, employment, and economic growth. With policies aimed at boosting farm incomes, supporting small industries, and improving infrastructure, the government continues to strengthen India’s economic progress and self-sufficiency.
